District Updates

School Board Recognition Month

Thank you to the Redmond School District Board of Directors: (from left to right) Keri Lopez, Amanda Page, Eric Lea, Michael Summers, and Liz Goodrich. This team meets twice a month for work sessions and board meetings, they also attend school events and share news in our community about our district and the wonderful things our students and staff are up to. In addition to establishing policies for the operation of the district, the Board defines the philosophy of the district, determines educational goals and standards, authorizes curriculum revision or development, approves employment and termination of personnel, approves the budget and sets the tax rate, approves property purchases, approves new building plans, and hears grievances of employees, students, and citizens. Upcoming meetings and recordings of past meetings are available online here.

Redmond School District Reports Strong 87% Graduation Rate

The Oregon Department of Education released statewide graduation rate data this week, which showed Redmond School District well above the state average with an overall district average of 87 percent graduation success.

Dr. Charan Cline, Superintendent of the Redmond School District, attributed these successful graduation rates to the collective efforts of teachers spanning from kindergarten to high school. Cline expressed gratitude to every teacher, staff member, family, and community contributor who played a role in enriching the educational journey of graduates.

Dave Burke, Director of Secondary Programs, emphasized the district's consistent graduation rate as a testament to the effectiveness of tailored academic programs designed to promote success for all students.

Notably, the district's graduation rate maintained its historic high this year in Redmond.

While acknowledging room for growth, Cline expressed pride in the ongoing efforts in Redmond.

The district has set specific goals aligned with the vision statement of "Ready Graduates" for the current year. Early measures in a child's academic journey, such as 3rd-grade reading benchmarks, middle school attendance and GPA, and the number of credits earned by the end of 9th grade, are considered reliable indicators of future graduation success. These metrics are actively monitored and shared among school building teams, with regular updates provided in school board meetings.

Parents interested in learning more about how to collaborate and support their students in achieving these critical milestones are encouraged to reach out directly to their child's school.

RHS Facility Tour

The Redmond School District’s citizen-led Community Bond Task Force was guided on a tour of Redmond High School by Principal Audrey Haugan, and Project Manager Chad Franke at a scheduled monthly meeting. The bond committee was shown some of the recommended repairs and upgrades that a bond measure could support, if passed by the community.

Students are not allowed to engage in standard theater operations for production such as props, lighting, and curtain management due to safety restrictions of the outdated theater.

Youth Career Connect - Helping Students Find the Right Internship

Serving both high schools, Daniel Seddiqui, is making connections with local business and students. Daniel is available to meet with students and help them find the right fit with local business internships. Students have already been matched up in fields such as engineering, surveying, physical therapy, manufacturing, accounting, child care, and cosmetology. "There are great opportunities out there waiting to be discovered," said Seddiqui. Daniel has been doing this type of work for 15 years and brings expertise in matching interests and skills, and finding businesses who want to be mentors and engage with our students. To learn more, or to schedule an appointment with Daniel, email him at dseddiqui@coic.org. Students can also speak with their school Career Center Coordinators; Leslie Hanna at Redmond High and Kate Soliz at Ridgeview High, to learn more.
