More than half of our secondary students who were surveyed said that they or someone they know has experienced severe cyberbullying online. In focus groups, many students said that they do not feel comfortable talking to an adult about what they are experiencing online; out of fear of overreaction or an invalidation of their experiences.

We encourage our community to take time to check in and have non-judgmental conversations about social media use. For ideas on conversation starters, check out https://thefamilydinnerproject.org/blog/how-to-talk-to-teens-social-media/

We would also like to remind our families that anyone is able to submit an anonymous tip through www.safeoregon.com for any safety threats or concerns. Safe Oregon reports are sent immediately to local law enforcement and school administrators while protecting the identity of the person making the report.
